China accounts for over 90% of Myanmar’s garment raw material imports

Importing raw materials by the garment enterprises working on the Cut-Make-Pack basis hit over US$1 billion, and China constitutes 90 per cent of the import.
Those countries that outsource from Myanmar are found to place orders for raw garment materials from China.
Products from the Myanmar garment sector are sent to over 80 countries in the current financial year 2023-2024, mainly to Japan, Poland, Spain, Germany, the Republic of Korea, the UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy, the US, Denmark and Belgium. The Ministry of Commerce’s statistics showed that Myanmar exported finished garment products worth $5.3 billion to 100 countries last FY 2022-2023. — TWA/KK
