YANGON – 19 June 2019 – China Eastern Airlines launches its Shanghai – Yangon direct flights at Yangon International Airport (“YIA”), Terminal 1 this morning.
Utilizing an Airbus 320 aircraft for the new service, China Eastern Airlines will operate its thrice-weekly flights starting from 18 June.
The new direct service will take only 4 hours and 50 minutes connecting the largest city in China and Myanmar’s commercial capital, Yangon.
The long-awaited direct flight is China Eastern Airlines’ 9th route connecting China and Myanmar, and it made China Eastern Airlines became the airline with the most significant number of flights between China and Myanmar, the airline said.
The opening of the Yangon – Shanghai route will also provide more options for international passengers departing from Myanmar to transit to a third country.
It is estimated that China Eastern Airlines will transport around 360,000 passengers between China and Myanmar in 2019, according to the airline.
A total of six airlines from China are expanded up to 11 flight destinations in 2018 and Chinese tourist arrival is increased by 38.38 per cent in compared with last year arrival.—MNA
