Onions from China are seen entering the Yangon market on 23 June.

The Chinese onions were entering Yangon market on 23 June, said Ko Aung onion and potato seller at Nyaung Pin Lay Market.
The large size of Monywa onion is priced at K1,900 per viss while K1,500 per viss of Chinese onion.
The current China-produced onions were smaller than the previous ones but larger than the onions of Myanmar.
Although the price of Chinese onion was K1,500 per viss in the market, the sellers are still watching the situation comparing the price of Myanmar onion, purchaser Ko Min Lwin told the GNLM.
The locally produced onion prices are high and the low-quality onion has been entering the Yangon market since 2009.
Strangely, the onion entry period is not similar to the previous years as the country receives the onions in mid-year, the onion dealers said.
The Yangon’s wholesale centres sell the products by taking fees from the merchants.
The prices are different about K500 or K200 per viss depending on the sizes of onions.
When the price drops, the people buy large-size onions, and small or medium-size ones when the price is high to save about K200 or K500, said Daw Cho Cho Oo from South Okkalapa Township.
The Chinese onions of this year are similar to the Myanmar onions and there is still no comment for them, said Ko Min Lwin.
In 2022, the people will grow monsoon onion earlier and the new monsoon onion will enter the Yangon market in early December. —TWA/GNLM
