The Ministry of Commerce held the virtual signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between CITIC Group, the People’s Republic of China, and the Myanmar Rice Federation yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the ceremony, Union minister for Commerce Dr Pwint San said that he believed that it would be better to include a short-term and immediately beneficial trade component in the MoA, in addition to the long-term investments in the agricultural sector. He said his ministry strongly encourages trade in rice, maize and fertilizers by annually bilateral negotiations, adding that it is very important for Myanmar, as an agricultural country, to export quality agricultural products and to gain a stable market.
He also said that he believed the China-Myanmar friendship can be further enhanced through agricultural cooperation, and it is important to improve regional food security and economic opportunities for farmers, as well as rural development, by connecting with the Belt and Road programme of China.
