Coffee seeds in Homalin start being harvested

The coffee seeds are started harvesting in Homalin township, Sagaing region and they are having a high yield.
“Currently, the coffee seeds are being harvested. The yields of the coffee are also good. The raw coffee seeds from Homalin township are conveyed to Ywangan in Shan State and Mandalay market,” said Daw Su Su Htwe, township head of the Agriculture Department in Homalin township.
Last year, the price of coffee seeds in Homalin was K5,000 per viss. But this year, the price fetched K8,000 per viss.
The cultivation cost of the coffee plantation is K500,000 per acre in Homalin township and it is yielded about 85 visses per acres of coffee plantation.
“The coffee plants are cultivated with natural fertilizer and it became more expensive,” said Daw Su Su Htwe.
Coffee plantation is grown mostly in Homalin, Hkamti, Naga, Kalay, Tamu, Mawlaik, Katha and Kawlin districts. We are carrying out to boost the coffee cultivation in the Naga area. We are providing the coffee seed and nursery plants.
Currently, there are a total of 108 acres of coffee plants in Homalin township. Yearly, the coffee plants are cultivated mostly in June and July.
After three years of cultivating, the coffee begins to bear and is yielded in four years. — Lu Lay/GNLM
