State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met departmental officials of PyinOoLwin district and township of Mandalay Region to discuss development programmes at the government’s guesthouse in PyinOoLwin Township yesterday.
First, PyinOoLwin District Administrator U Kyaw Kyaw Tun explained the coffee plantation in the PyinOoLwin region, development in education and health sectors, arrivals of local and foreign travellers, conservation of ancient heritage buildings to lure travellers and other matters.
Union Ministers Admiral Tin Aung San and U Khin Maung Yi then reported on the Mandalay-PyinOoLwin-Gokteik Viaduct train service, arrangements to offer steam locomotive train route, conservation works on the Gokteik Viaduct and PyinOoLwin railway station, initial operations to upgrade Anisakhan Airport, work plans to implement quick communication system, systematic coffee plantations in PyinOoLwin in accordance with the directives of the State Leader and assistance of good seeds and technologies, local and foreign coffee markets, monsoon cherry tree plantation to establish Cherry Town, five-year plan to grow cherry trees and hardwood, systematic farming industries in line with the rules and regulations and construction of buildings by coordinating with the ministries concerned.
Efforts must be made to develop the regional economy and promote tourism development as a resort city by improving the region’s agricultural activities.
Then, the regional chief minister and mayor clarified the upgrade works in the transport sector to develop the PyinOoLwin region, building reservoir and sluice gate to keep the water of National Kandawgyi Garden, road expansion, paving of tar road, construction of pond filter in the Gelaung Creek and the progress of implementation works under the directives the SAC Chairman made during his tour to PyinOoLwin.
The Senior General said he met with the coffee entrepreneurs before Thingyan and now meets with the ministers and departmental staff of PyinOoLwin again to implement the discussions, provide the requirements and make decisions for regional development. The government allowed the coffee entrepreneurs to apply for the state-owned land areas to grow coffee plants, and it will keep going in line with the regulations. If it follows the rules and regulations, the coffee production rate will be high in PyinOoLwin, and the region will be covered by the forest that will not occur any climate changes. Therefore, the relevant ministries and departments should follow the rules and regulations. Officials of the respective regions and departments are responsible for developing and greening the region and ensuring the rule of law in their areas. Based on the presentations, the arrangements will be made to establish a coffee association by cooperating with the ministries concerned, responsible officials and entrepreneurs across the nation. The restrictions on building constructions will be amended as per the coffee plantation area in line with the trend.

PyinOoLwin has been created into a hilly resort town, cherry town and coffee town in previous years. It was made for the region’s interest, and it should understand that the government did not work for its interest. During the Thingyan period, the bookings at hotels and guesthouses in PyinOoLwin were full, and it shows the pleasant condition of the region and the interest of local and foreign travellers.
