Companies, farmers must apply for GAP certificates

The companies and farmers who have already received the good agricultural practices-GAP certificates will be allowed to export their agricultural produce as of 2015.
It was aimed at enabling the agricultural companies and farmers to get good prices over their products, according to the Agriculture Department.
A coordination meeting on issuance of GAP certificate took place at the Agriculture Department in Nay Pyi Taw on 11 December.
The Central GAP Implementation and Supervisory Committee, the GAP Certificate Issuance Committee, the inspection committee, the educative knowledge dissemination committee and the lab committee will participate in issuance of the GAP certificates to the companies and farmers.
The Agriculture Department will inspect the soil and water samples of the cultivable lands of applicants. The GAP holders are to attend the GAP procedure course and pesticide usage course. Officials will make field trips to the GAP holders’ farms to check cultivation of crops in line with the prescribed rules and regulations and production process at the packaging houses.–Ko Pauk (Okkar Myay)
