Comprehensive crackdown on illegal trade: Over K1.198 billion worth of goods seized in two days

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, measures are being taken in accordance with the law to combat illegal trade activities.
On 6 September, a combined team managed by the Kachin State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections at the 21st-mile checkpoint in Myitkyina. They seized 3,050 kilogrammes of ammonium nitrate, estimated to be worth K3 million, which was being transported without the necessary official documentation. The seizure was made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 6 and 7 September, combined duty teams under the Customs Department’s management carried out inspections. They discovered two types of illegal industrial and consumer goods, valued at over K500 million, from 19 containers at the Asia World container checkpoint, and two types of unlicensed medicines, valued at K63 million, at Myanmar Industrial Port. Hence, action was conducted following Customs procedures.
On 7 September, a combined team led by the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force inspected a vehicle at the Myitnge checkpoint and seized seven types of illegal consumer goods, worth over K4 million, along with a Toyota Hilux, valued at K20 million, which was transporting these goods. Additionally, two types of unlicensed industrial goods, valued at K14 million, were seized from an Isuzu truck valued at K35 million and various unlicensed items worth K42 million were found in a Mitsubishi Canter truck valued at K25 million at the Kywetetson and Yadanabon Bridge checkpoints. A Nissan Diesel Truck, estimated to be worth K55 million, carrying 4.28 tonnes of illegal teak worth over K36 million, was also confiscated near Aungtawmu Pagoda. Action was taken under Customs procedures.
On the same day, a combined team from the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force confiscated three types of illegal food, valued at K36 million, from four vehicles travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon at the Nyaungkhashay X-Ray checkpoint. These vehicles included two Toyota Hiace, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, and a Hino truck worth K130 million in total. Additionally, an Isuzu truck valued at K30 million carrying illegal industrial goods worth K4.5 million was seized at the city tollgate of Phayagyi. Action was also conducted under Customs procedures.
In Yangon Region, on 7 September, a combined team under the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force performed inspection in Taikkyi Township, where they confiscated 0.159 tonne of illegal timber and one tricycle, valued at K7 million, under the Forest Law.
Furthermore, on 7 September, the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force inspected the Kengpawng checkpoint and seized a Nidi truck, valued at K80 million, carrying two types of illegal consumer goods worth K23 million. This action was also taken under Customs procedures.
Overall, on 6 and 7 September, a total of 30 illegal goods seizures with an estimated value of over K1.198 billion were reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/ TRKM
