Consumption of seasonal Mawlamyine pomelo increasing and its sales strong in market

According to the information gathered from the fruit market, sales of seasonal Mawlamyine pomelo fruit are strong due to increased consumption.
The sales are good as this is the beginning of its season and the supply will rise in coming months.
“Its production started in June. From this July to coming months, the whole farm can be harvested. It will be abundant in next months and stop yielding in Tagu. Pomelo consumption is rising as people like it,” said an official from the Lin Pwint San Pomelo (Main) in Kyaikto township.
The Mon state is a pomelo-producing region and Kyaikto, Bilin, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Mudon, Ye and Khawza are the top locations among the 10 townships in Mon state. There are two kinds of pomelo — white and pink — and the yield and sales of those produced in Mon state are good.
“This is Mawlamyine pomelo. There is also Thai pomelo which has a thicker skin, but the taste is not very good. The colour is not fine. People prefer Mawlamyine pomelo to Thai pomelo. Thai pomelo is expensive. We usually sell in kilograms. Mawlamyine pomelo has various colours,” he said. — Thit Taw/ZN/ED
