Continuous development course for bamboo innovation products in Mekong Region opened

The Department of Research and Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology, organized the opening ceremony of the “Continuous Development Course for Bamboo Innovation Products in the Mekong Region” which will be implemented under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund 2020, yesterday in Yangon.
The ceremony was addressed by Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Minister Counsellor from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Madam Li Xiao Yan, Director-General of the Department of Strategic Studies and Training of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Aung Myint, and Director-General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization-INBAR Mr Ali Mchumo.
The ceremony was attended by officials from the embassies of Cambodia, Laos, China, Thailand and Viet Nam, department officials, expert professors from China, officials from the Myanmar Bamboo Cultivation Association, Myanmar Rattan and Bamboo Association, and Myanmar Bamboo Industry Development Association, and the trainees of the course.
Afterwards, the Union minister observed the trainees’ work and the Bamboo Architecture Demonstration Unit at the “Training of Trainers on Bamboo Weaving Art” opened at the Department of Research and Innovation. The training is being conducted by Chinese experts online (virtual mode) from 24 to 28 January and practical skills such as dying, bamboo splitting and handicrafts will be included.
The “Continuous Development Course for Bamboo Innovation Products in the Mekong Region” covers bamboo industry policy and sustainable development, and the techniques of producing innovative value-added bamboo products.
This project will provide sustainable development of the bamboo industry in the Mekong Region, including Myanmar, and the cooperation between countries will be strengthened by providing small and medium enterprises with research and innovative value-added technologies, and by competing in the international market for high value-added bamboo products. — MNA
