Cooler weather for revelers on Akya Day

With the mercury down slightly in Yangon, the second day, or Akya Day, of the Thingyan New Year festival was more crowded than usual with revelers at the numerous pandals in Yangon.
Intermittent showers scattered over Yangon and other areas throughout the day, bringing cooler weather to the festival participants.
Yangon is expected to again see showers and cloudy weather today, according the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.
Isolated rain or thundershowers are expected over the Yangon region today, with an 80 per cent degree of certainty, said the weather bureau, which also announced yesterday that there was a formation of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.
The low pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression that could mean cloudy or wet weather over the next 24 hours, said the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, according to observations made at 6.30 pm yesterday.
According to the MHD’s 9.30 am Friday forecast, the low pressure system is persisting over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a low pressure area.
Weather will be partly cloudy in the Upper Sagaing Region and Chin State. Rain or thundershowers will be scattered in the Mandalay, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions and Shan and Rakhine States and isolated in the remaining areas.
Squalls with moderate to rough seas are likely at times off and along the Myanmar coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 35 mph.
