Court sentences woman human trafficker to 20 years in prison

A woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison with labour for trafficking a 33-year-old woman to China.
Daw Yi Yi Than (arrested), Aung Hein Kyaw (still at large) and Ei Phyu (still at large) persuaded the victim woman that she would get between K3 million to K7 million bride price if she marries Chinese man Kyu Shi Chaing (still at large). After the official marriage, he would take her to China. They officially signed the marriage certificate and were arrested on the way to Mandalay.
A case was opened against them under Sections s28/32 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law at Hmawby Myoma Police Station and the Yangon North District Court sentenced Daw Yi Yi Than to 20 years in prison with labour under Sections 28/32 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law and declared the remaining suspects the fugitives. — MNA
