Customs duty taxes on SKD, CKD vehicles eased

The Customs Department has issued an announcement that the easing of customs duty taxes on domestically-assembled SKD and CKD vehicles has been made.
With the permission of the Myanmar Investment Commission, the customs rates of imports of domestically produced semi-knocked-down (SKD) and completely knocked-down (CKD) system vehicles were relaxed from 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024.
According to the statement of the Customs Department, the tax rate for SKD system passenger cars with above 2000 CC and 2001 CC has been reduced from 7.5 per cent to 5 per cent, and the rate for CKD system passenger cars with above 2000 CC and 2001 CC has been reduced from 5 per cent to 3 per cent.
Permits to import new vehicles from abroad have been suspended since September 2021. Although car import policies have been released for 2022, car sales centres have not yet been approved to import. Currently, only commercial vehicles are allowed to be imported at a rate of five vehicles per week. — TWA/CT
