Dam to benefit local farmers in Maungtaw Township

The Kainggyi Dam, which is one of the 26 dams being constructed by the Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department in Maungtaw Township, will irrigate some 100 acres to grow paddy in summer and will supply water to nearby villages on completion.
The dam is targeted to be completed in March, the Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department said. The construction of the dam near Kainggyi Village in Maungtaw Township started on 16 December 2017, and the project is 85 per cent complete. The Rakhine State government contributed with Ks300 million for the project. Thanks to the dam, local farmers can practise double cropping, as well as get sufficient water supply. —Kyaw Thu Win
