Deputy CBM Governor attends Meeting of US Treasury-ASEAN Deputy Finance Ministers and Deputy Governors of Central Banks

The CBM deputy governor takes part in the US Treasury-ASEAN Deputy Finance Ministers and Deputy Governors of Central Banks yesterday.

The Meeting of US Treasury-ASEAN Deputy Finance Ministers and Deputy Governors of Central Banks virtually took place yesterday morning.
The meeting was attended by officials of the US Treasury, ASEAN Deputy Finance Ministers and Deputy Governors of Central Banks, including Central Bank of Myanmar Deputy Governor Daw Than Than Swe.
During the meeting, Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Treasury Mr Robert Kaproth exchanged views on the US’s economic recovery plans and responses regarding with COVID-19 pandemic, climate changes, and budget priorities of the US. At the same time, the ASEAN Secretary-General Office and ASEAN Deputy Finance Ministers and Deputy Governors of Central Banks briefed about their performances, priority sectors and further work plans.
The officials kept holding the AFCDM at noon and Brunei briefed about priority sectors in 2021 while the ASEAN Secretary-General about ASEAN Financial Roadmap and 2021 ASEAN Financial Integration Monitoring Report, Capital Account Liberation(CAL), Capital Market Development (CMD), Financial Services Liberation (FSL), ASEAN Banking Integration Framework (ABIF), Financial Inclusion (FINC), Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) to be implemented in 2021-2022FY.
Then, Deputy CMB Governor Daw Than Than Swe discussed financial services liberation, the close relationship between central banks of ASEAN regarding banking and payment services, subsidiary licences and Equity Participation, the invitation to ASEAN regions, and international organizations in governmental sectors for the development of financial flows.
She also presented financial regulation and restructured for Financial Integration, inbound/outbound retail payment remittance, QR Code Myanmar Standard for Real-Time Retail Payment System (RTRPS), technical aids from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Thai Central Bank and other work plans of the government to meet the priorities of ASEAN 2021.

The meeting also focused on a joint statement to be submitted to the 7th AFMGM (ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting) to be held on 30 March. — MNA
