The Disaster Management Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has used K 329.1 million from its budget for foods, construction materials and other relief items after the strong winds that devastated buildings from 9 April to 7 May.
During this period, a total of 377 houses and 13 religious buildings were destroyed, and some damages occurred at 5,982 houses and 124 religious buildings.
On 6 May, the strong winds destroyed house and religious buildings in Lewe Township in Nay Pyi Taw, Kachin State, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, Shan and Ayeyawady.
Two people were also injured in these devastations.
Awareness of natural disasters such as strong winds unseasonal heavy rains, hailstones and thunderbolts has been raised in early monsoon period, and assistance can be available through hotline phone numbers 067 3404666 and 067 3404777 of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. —MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
