Disaster Management Department: YR prepares for monsoon season disasters

According to U Than Soe, Director of the Disaster Management Department in Yangon Region, the region is well-prepared for the timely distribution of relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters during the monsoon season.
According to the report, a total of 17 types of rescues and support equipment have been readied for distribution to 5,000 households in anticipation of disasters during the rainy season in Yangon Region.
U Than Soe stated, “We have already practised procedures and plans with rescue and support equipment to respond to natural disasters as swiftly as possible. Relief supplies for at least 500 households have been stockpiled at district-level offices for immediate deployment during disasters. Furthermore, we have reserves to accommodate up to 5,000 households if a disaster strikes Yangon Region. These supplies include clothing, kitchen items, and other essentials”.
Last year, the Yangon Region experienced 102 disasters, prompting the allocation of funds amounting to K99.68 million and relief supplies valued at K27.83 million. It has also been reported that 17 rescue items, such as life jackets, makeshift tents, lifebelts, ropes, boats, and other rescue materials, are already stored at district and departmental offices for rapid deployment to disaster-affected areas.
Moreover, a fleet of vehicles and 3,056 volunteers are on standby to respond promptly to disasters and storms within Yangon Region. — ASH/TMT
