Don’t fear the new COVID-19 variant but follow health guidelines

Article

In recent days, the World Health Organization disseminated the terrible news about the COVID-19 pandemic to the world, saying that a new coronavirus strain detected in South Africa is a highly transmissible “variant of concern” and named it “Omicron”.
AFP news agency stated that the emergence of the B.1.1.529 variant, first reported to the WHO from South Africa on 24 November 2021, has caused authorities around the world to react with alarm and led them to quickly tighten travel restrictions, adding an advisory panel of the UN health agency has warned the variant has “a large number of mutations, some of which are concerning”.
The new variant was also found in Botswana, Israel and Hong Kong. It is dangerous for all. It is because Myanmar encountered the severe infection of the pandemic in the third wave. So, a new variant that might not be affected by existing vaccines may bring reluctant information to the global countries.
For the time being, 10.4 million people have fully received COVID-19 vaccines and 4.9 million more people have been vaccinated in Myanmar for the first dose. The government set an aim to vaccinate half of the total population by the end of December and the total population in April 2022.
Herd immunity must have risen at a certain percentage of the total population for ending the infection of the pandemic. The herd immunity can be maintained through the vaccination as well those who recovered from the infected situation.
Myanmar is under a certain situation of controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, all people need to take care of their health conditions by following the restrictions against COVID-19.
Whatever it may be, Myanmar needs to take preventive measures against the pandemic with restricted health guidelines for the people in time not to face severe health problems next time. All the people need to cooperate with the authorities in battling the pandemic without fail as an act of wearing masks, face shields and gloves, washing hands, legs and faces whenever return home and avoiding crowds and public places.

On the other hand, medical experts need to invent the vaccines against COVID-19 as quickly as possible for serving the interests of the State and the people. Now is the time for Myanmar people to change their mindset and behaviours to be ready for fighting against COVID-19.
