Double earthquakes damage properties in Chin State

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale shook Falam, Chin State, at 6:15 pm on 16 April, with its epicenter 24 miles south of the town while another one measuring 4.1 occurred with its epicentre 25 miles southeast of Falam at 7:17 pm on the same day.
The earthquakes caused a certain amount of damage in Falam and Haka as it broke glass windows and toppled doors, cupboards and other items in addition to splitting the walls of local buildings. The quakes also dislodged the sacred umbrella of the pagoda in Ingyin Kyun Village, Kalay Township, Sagaing Region. The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is collecting information on the extent of the damage and will coordinate with relevant departments to address the situation.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
