State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San arrived at Sittway University yesterday and inspected the cleanup activities and repairing works together with Union Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung and Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin.
During the inspection, he instructed the need to complete the repair works in time before the opening of universities and prepare the learning activities as usual.
Then, the Deputy Prime Minister and party went to the construction sites of a double-layer Bailey bridge at Thechaung Bridge on Sittway-Palinpyin road and a single-layer Bailey bridge at the location of Darpaing Bridge.
These bridges were destroyed during Cyclone Mocha on 14 May and the Ministry of Construction saved the construction materials on 16 May. The ministry constructed the Thechaung Bridge as a 140-ft long double-layer Bailey bridge while the Darpaing Bridge a 60-ft long single-layer Bailey bridge on 18 May. The operations were completed on 22 May and the people and vehicles can use the bridges as usual.
The Sittway-Palinpyin road is a Class A inter-village road. The IDP camps are also located there and the road connects nine villages including Palinpyin village.
At noon, the Deputy Minister and party watched the departure of Kaladan 4, 5 and 6 vessels that carry construction materials and foodstuffs from Phaungtawgyi jetty of Myanma Port Authority in Sittway.
The Kaladan 4 vessel carries 198.7 tonnes of construction materials and foodstuffs to Kyauktaw and Ponnagyun townships while Kaladan 5 to Rathedaung and Maungtaw townships with 195.6 tonnes and Kaladan 6 to Pauktaw, MraukU, Minbya and Myebon townships with 248.93 tonnes.
During the coordination meeting on rehabilitation processes held at the State Government Office, the officials of respective committees reported on the arrival and distribution of foodstuffs and matters related to power, transportation, water, education and health issues.
Then, the Deputy Prime Minister gave proper instructions and concluded the meeting.
Of 1,233 mobile stations of four telecom operators in Rakhine State, 904 stations failed due to Cyclone Mocha. Over 400 telecom staff from regions and states including locals conducted the maintenance of underground and aboveground fibre cables, microwave links, downtown cable network and mobile communication stations. To date, 647 mobile stations (79.16 per cent) have been repaired and communication services have resumed in Rakhine State. — MNA/KTZH
