State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San inspected the navy ship Mottama to transport relief supplies to the respective regions as quickly as at Sittway Port yesterday.
The Mottama vessel carried 930 tonnes of supplies including rice, palm oil, foodstuffs, drinking water, family kits, telecom towers, two 500 kVA generators, two water purification trucks, tarpaulin, CI sheets, construction materials, 20 chainsaws, two mobile communication vehicles and fuel oil and it will deliver to the respective areas. The vessel also carried 104 electricians and over 400 staff of the Ministry of Electric Power to Rakhine State.
The Deputy Prime Minister and party then went to U Ottama Park in Sittway Township to inspect the cleaning processes of fallen trees conducted by Tatmadaw and Myanmar Police Force.
They also headed to the speed boat jetty and encouraged 116 members of Fire Brigade from Ayeyawady Region who will carry out relief work and rehabilitation processes in Pauktaw Township and one company of Bago Region Fire Brigade which will do cleaning work in Rathedaung Township.
They also inspected the cleaning up in the compound of Lawkananda Pagoda and the transport of relief items in Tatmadaw aircraft at Sittway Airport.
The flight services resumed yesterday for locals as usual.
They then viewed round the city and comforted the people who removed the fallen trees, cleaning up and repairing works on lamp-posts and power cables.
On arrival at the 500-bed Sittway General Hospital, they checked the repair work at the hospital building and access to clean water.
They also went to Sittway strand road and inspected the damaged roads and Sittway Point beach ring road and instructed officials to repair the damage as quickly as possible.
At noon, the Deputy Prime Minister and party met the state-level departmental officials of the Rakhine State natural disaster management committee and attended the meeting on clarification on destructions after the cyclone and rehabilitation processes.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister talked about the arrival of his team in Rakhine State on 15 May and inspection tours to storm-affected areas and plans to transport the foodstuffs, medicines, medical supplies, shelters and rehabilitation items to the respective regions, to repair the hospitals, schools and monasteries as per the directives of the Prime Minister.
He then urged the local staff and residents to participate in these processes to complete them successfully.
Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung and Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin reported on the measures to repair damaged roads and communication systems as priorities in storm-hit areas including Sittway and cooperation work with departmental staff and residents in transporting supplies and rehabilitation processes.
