President Dr Sai Mauk Kham this morning attended a ceremony to assign duties to medical doctors newly appointed by the Shan State government in Lashio.
The event was held at Myanmar Medical Association (Lashio) in Shan State.
The Shan State Chief Minister highlighted the State efforts to provide healthcare services for the people in parallel with the health standards of the regional countries, adding that medicines and medical equipment are distributed to all states and regions on an equal basis.
He said 42 medical doctors had been appointed under the arrangement of the regional government. He then urged the doctors to perform their medical duties out of goodwill.
Deputy Health Minister Dr Win Myint also called on the new employees to provide public healthcare in a patient and duty-conscious manner while trying to become brilliant doctors.
Dr. Sai Mauk Kham in his speech said Myanmar had turned out over 30,000 medical doctors but some of them are in foreign countries due to various reasons while some have been out of the medical field. He stressed the need to train more doctors as there are only about 10,000 heath staff members across the country.

The Vice-President and wife donated K 10 million and the chief minister and wife K 5 million for the ordination hall.
