A drawing-lots ceremony for the 2024 Asian Cup U-20 and U-17 Women’s Qualifiers will be held today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Asian Football Confederation will hold the qualifiers for both tournaments in two stages, with the drawing lots for the first-stage qualifying groups taking place today.
A total of 29 teams will compete in the first round of the Asian Cup U-17 Women’s Qualifiers, which will be divided into eight groups.
North Korea, including the Japanese team that won the last 2019 tournament, China and the 2024 AFC Women’s U-17 Cup final host Indonesia will be allowed to compete directly without having to compete in the qualifiers.
According to sedan criteria, Australia, South Korea, Bangladesh, Iran, Myanmar and the Philippines are placed into Pot-1 while China Taipei, India, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong, Lebanon, and Malaysia are falling in the Pot-2.
Meanwhile, Nepal, UAE, Palestine, and North Mariana Island are in the Pot-3, and Bahrein, Bhutan, Iraq, Turkmenistan, and Cambodia are in the Pot-4.
Guam, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam and Tajikistan are in the Host Pot.
The qualifiers will be divided into eight groups, and only the top team from each group will qualify for the second round of qualifiers. The first qualifying group matches will be held from 22 to 30 April 2023.
A total of 31 teams will compete in the first round of the Asian Cup U-20 Women’s Qualifiers, which will be divided into eight groups.
North Korea, including the Japanese team that won the last 2019 tournament, South Korea and the 2024 AFC Women’s-U20 Championship, the final host country of Uzbekistan, will be allowed to compete directly without qualifying.
In the Asian U-20 Women’s Qualifiers, Australia, China, Myanmar, Iran, Nepal, and Lebanon are falling in the Pot-1 while China Taipei, India, Malaysia, and UAE are placed in Pot-2.
Mongolia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Guam, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Bhutan are in Pot-3, and Indo nesia, Iraq, Northern Mariana Island, the Philippines, and Turkmenistan are in the Pot-4.
In the host pot, ASEAN teams Bangladesh, Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia are with Jordan, Palestine, and Kyrgyzstan.
The top eight teams from the eight groups in the first round of qualifiers will advance to the next stage. The first round of qualifiers will be held from 4 to 12 March 2023.
Among the Myanmar youth teams that will compete in the qualifiers, the Myanmar U-16 women’s team is competing in the Myanmar Women’s League under the name of Young Lionesses to gain competition experience, while the Myanmar U-19 women’s players are playing in their respective clubs and will prepare for training only after the league competition is over. —Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
