The government is striving for enhancement of the nation’s fishery sector. In the future, the government will cooperate with the Netherlands to promote the marine product industry.
A delegation of marine product entrepreneurs from the Netherlands visited Myanmar in January. They are interested in putting investment in Myanmar’s fishery sector, and they will submit a work proposal to the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development, according to the Fisheries Department.
“Myanmar has much prospect for marine products. Myanmar entrepreneurs have many opportunities to do business in the fishery industry. However, they face some difficulties in export of products and seeking foreign markets. They cannot keep ahead of entrepreneurs from the international community in market opportunities. With regard to the work proposal, the entrepreneurs from the Netherlands will carry out the tasks from the stage of fishing to cold storage processing. And then, they will export,” an official of the fisheries department said.
U Tin Shwe from a fishing industry said, “We welcome entrepreneurs from the international community, but I worry about their occupation of market share. In the country, we operate most fishery industries with the payment-for-job system. Generally, we lack a market network.”
