Early yield winter black bean entering market with hike price

The early yielding winter black beans are entering the Mandalay market with hike price for 2022 verity bean season, according to the Mandalay bean merchants.
“The black beans have been entering the market beginning from second weeks of December. The yield and quality of black bean are also good. Besides, the price of black bean hit K130,000 per bag (one bag contains three baskets) this year, up from K85,000 per bag compared to that of the last year,” said U Soe Win Myint, owner of Soe Win Myint Brokerage from Mandalay.
“The winter black beans are entering Mandalay market starting from the second week of December. Since harvesting this year, the beans are fetching the good price. The stockpile of the black bean cultivated in monsoon using of irrigated water is scarcity in the market. This year, the winter black bean are yielding abundantly because there is no plant bugs and thankful for good weather conditions. In the lower region, the black beans are cultivated in only one season as a winter crop. This year, the bean is yielded about two weeks early. Last year, the bean was yielded at the end of December. The black bean is Myanmar’s export item, and it has chiefly exported to India,” he added.
Currently, the black beans from Katha, Htigyaing, Madaya and Singu regions are flooding the Mandalay market. Besides, the bean from Monywa, Shwebo, Pakokku and Myingyan regions will soon be entered.
The black bean started growing in August in the middle region of Myanmar and is highly harvested in January. The bean also harvests a lot in February and March in the lower areas of Myanmar such as Ayeyawady, Yangon and Bago regions, it is learnt. — Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/GNLM
