Education minister participates in China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week

Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi attended the opening ceremony of the 11th China-ASEAN Education Week in Guian New Area in China on 25 July.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi appreciated the development and cooperation between China and ASEAN in the education sector in 25 years, acknowledging that the cooperation had contributed to the development of the socio economy of the people of the China and the ASEAN, and peace and stability in the region.
He also stressed the important role of quality education in the future to produce skillful workers and to reduce inequalities. He also called for encouraging applied research and deep learning for students and to promote their innovation in the cultural, science and technology sectors. Following the opening ceremony, the union minister, together with education ministers from ASEAN-member countries and China, opened the international cooperation department for collecting data in China, ASEAN and neighbouring countries.
The 11th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week ran from 25 to 30 July in Guian New Area. The event is more than just a platform for educational cooperation and exchange, but has also been an important platform for cultural communication since it began in 2008. It primarily engages with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
This year’s event held a total of 57 activities spanning across education, culture, sports and health.
Later, Union Minister Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and education ministers visited the demonstration of the skills of students and booths.
The union minister arrived back in Yangon on 28 July.
