In commemoration of the 2015 World Wetlands Day, an educative talk was given at the hall of Basic Education High School in Mongthauk Village, Nyaungshwe Township, Shan State, on 2 February.
Administrator of Inlay Lake sanctuary U Sein Tun explained that wetlands help prevent floods and inundation, clean bad solutions from the water, contribute to cultural value of the buildings, and create relaxation resorts and habitations of wildlife.
Hailing the World Wetlands Day, local people and volunteers totalling over 250 carried out sanitation around Mongthauk BEHS and Mongthauk market and along the road from Mongthauk Village to Inlay Lake.
Myanmar joined the Ramsa Convention on 17 March 2005 to implement wetland conservation programmes.
Myanmar has established 38 sanctuaries including 10 wetlands. Inlay Lake sanctuary is one of the wetland area.–Nay Myo Thurein
