Fuel plays a crucial role in operating industries, generating electricity and directly and indirectly running the daily life of the people.
Myanmar produces various kinds of fuel, particularly petroleum and diesel, using crude oil from many oilfields across the nation, but the products are insufficient for domestic consumption.
Hence, businesspersons are allowed to import fuel abroad for distribution.
Hundreds of thousand tonnes of diesel and petroleum are imported from customer countries on a monthly basis under the government’s permit to be able to meet the local demand. As part of arranging the systematic distribution, the authorized bodies supervise the sales and distribution of the fuel to the people as well as vehicles.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar imports 200,000 tonnes of petroleum and 400,000 diesel tonnes per month, depending on the local demand. Most of them come from Singapore.
That is why all the entire people, including the authorities and businesspersons, should take care of the efficient use of fuel as a national cause by saving income with efforts to overcome Covid-19 challenges.
In April this year, many fuel tankers from Singapore arrived at international ports in Yangon City.
The Myanmar Port Authority stated that six fuel tankers carrying fuel arranging from 10,000 tonnes to 20,500 tonnes of diesel docked the international ports on 1 April.
Further fuel tankers with a load of more than tens of thousands of tonnes also arrived at the ports one after another in April.
The tankers carrying imported fuels arriving at Yangon’s international ports aim to meet the domestic demand of energy in order to ensure the secure and smooth transport and swift flow of trade and commodity.
In fact, it is an indirect contribution towards the running of the daily life of the entire people.
As a result of this effort, all country sectors can be operated in a smooth process.
As such, businesspersons import the fuel from Asian countries, but they face difficulties in the hiking of US dollar value in the exchange of money and worry over the fuel demand during the Covid-19 period.
