Efficiently use water for consumption and cultivation purposes

Myanmar’s farmers themselves need to participate in the implementation of participatory irrigation management so as to efficiently utilize the agricultural water provided by dams to farmlands when the climate change effects gradually inch year by year.
The human resources which studied efficient water utilization in Israel which is the best capacity in efficient water utilization across the world should be applied in Myanmar’s agriculture sector. Moreover, it is necessary to teach agricultural engineering subjects to students at schools at different levels to have a wider knowledge of efficient water utilization.
Currently, as the supply of irrigation water is crucial for ensuring the successful thriving of crops and the development of rural areas, the government is putting investments in irrigation projects with farsightedness to improve the life of farmers.
Farmers need to systematic utilize water for the cultivation of crops under the triple cropping pattern such as paddy-bean-paddy, paddy-sunflower-paddy, paddy-sesame-paddy and paddy and other two crops on more than six million acres of irrigated farmlands. If so, farmers will have great changes in their life.
There are some 33.2 million acres of farmlands under various kinds of crops. A total of 25.517 acres of farmlands are rainfed and irrigated lands whereas monsoon paddy is placed on some 15 million acres of farmlands and summer paddy on some three million acres. Now, more than 20 per cent of 33.2 million acres of net cultivable lands are being irrigated by dams.

This being so, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is implementing the projects for the construction of dams and reservoirs, diversion weirs, sluice gates, canals and underground water tapping while supplying water through solar power and hydropower. As such, all need to efficiently use irrigation sources so as to improve the agriculture and livestock sectors.

At present, climate change affects the reduction of water sources across the nation. Hence, all need to save water sources for future generations and efficiently use them. In doing so, the entire people should make collaborative efforts to the prevention of wasting water and for ensuring the sufficiency of water in society.
Nobody can stay away from water. Efficient utilization of water both for consumption and cultivation purposes can be dubbed as saving the water sources as well as conserving the natural environment to shape the country lush and green forever. Consequently, the people will have a chance to enjoy the fruits of the food supplies and accommodation through a good natural environment based on thriving crop plantations and water supply.
