Efforts to combat illegal trade continue with major seizures, arrests

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illegal trade continue effectively and are in line with the law.
On 24 July, Customs Department teams conducted inspections and seized several items: 50 pieces of Thai-made bedsheet materials valued at K4.5 million at Yangon International Airport and three types of illegal goods worth K5.2 million, including 4,200 bottles of Thai-made Lactasoy soya milk and a King Long bus valued at K45 million carrying these goods at Ywathagyi Dry Port. The action was carried out in accordance with Customs Procedures.
Also, on 24 July, the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force inspected goods at the Yadanabon Bridge (Mandalay) checkpoint, resulting in the seizure of 55 types of goods valued at approximately K46.08 million. These included 600 kilogrammes of coconut fibre, five swivel office chairs, a Hino Profia truck, and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (valued at K60 million) transporting these items. The action was conducted according to Customs procedures.
On 25 July, the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force seized an unregistered Super Custom vehicle worth about K7 million at the Yadanabon checkpoint. The action was taken under the Import-Export Law.
Similarly, on 24 July, the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force seized 380 used Japanese bicycles (worth K6.46 million) and two Nissan Diesel trucks transporting them near the Shwethanlwin checkpoint in Phayagyi. The action was conducted as per Customs procedures.
On 25 July, 0.623 tonne of illegal teak valued at K548,768 was seized within Bago District. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that 13 arrests were made on 24 and 25 July, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K244.79 million. — MNA/TMT
