English proficiency course offered to monks

Academy of Paññâpâramî has launched a course on Spoken English at Mumbai Monastery in Tamway Township here on Friday, aiming to train monks to have a good command of the language.
It said monks across the country who have completed Dhammacariya, a Buddhist degree, are eligible to apply for the three-month course.
Eleven monks have been selected to take the course.
Diplomas will be awarded at the end of the course, and trainee monks will have an opportunity to do a master’s at the same school, according to U Arnt Maung, adviser at the President’s Office.
He added the trainee monks, after completion of the course, will be able to share language skills with people in rural areas.–GNLM
