Ensuring quality, accuracy in retail and wholesale of Pawsan and Aemahta rice

Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) announced on 3 July that companies, wholesalers and retailers in distribution chains need to sell the rice according to the set reference prices, ensuring the right price, right products and right sales for consumers.
The Consumer Affairs Department under the Ministry of Commerce has been joining hands with the Myanmar Rice Federation as a public-private partnership to govern the rice market for price stability and distribute rice at reference prices.
Rice bags must include labels mentioning rice varieties and components of rice mix to ensure the right products and right quality in both retail and wholesale of Pawsan and Aemahta varieties. They are asked to sell rice according to monthly reference prices. Rice measurement must be accurate according to the weight described on the bags. Consumers can check rice measurements at rice depots. MRF notified that retailers and wholesalers must abide by existing rules and laws and register on MyRO for rice storage and sales.
Those who fail to follow the stipulations mentioned above are subjected to legal action. MRF encouraged retailers and wholesalers to cooperate in this to enhance the rice industry. — NN/KK
