Ex-Union minister for natural resources and environmental conservation charged under anti-corruption law

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) set up an investigation team of inquiry into the alleged loss of state property in applying for the purchase of teak, ironwood and gumkiho logs to the Myanma Timber Enterprise to be used for the construction of the Moonlight Forest Project and related facilities by the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.
According to the findings of the investigation team, former Union minister U Ohn Win for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation instructed the managing director of the Myanma Timber Enterprise to sell a total of 172.0764 tonnes of teak, ironwood and gumkiho logs to be used in the project by his decision, not by the Tender System which is accordingly to President’s Office Directive No 1/2017 on the two applications. According to the audit findings of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Union, it was found that the state lost more than 100 million kyats according to the selling price and the tender winning price of the Myanma Timber Enterprise and the local market price comparison of the Highway Development and the relevant regional government. As former Union minister U Ohn Win was found guilty of corruption while in office, a case was filed against him under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law yesterday at Phayagon Myoma Police Station in Nay Pyi Taw according to ACC. — MNA
