Border trade in Maungtaw, Rakhine State reached US$1.75 million during the first three months of FY2017-2018, according to official statistics of the Maungtaw Border Trade Zone.
Maungtaw Border Trade Zone’s imports from Bangladesh were banned after alleged insurgents killed nine Myanmar security troops in Rakhine.
While Bangladesh imports ceased, exports continued and in June they were valued at an estimated $881,000.  Fish, rice, forest products and finished industrial goods are Myanmar’s main export products to Bangladesh.
