False claims: Security forces’ shootout in Monywa leaves 6 dead

G1

Reports circulated by malicious news media claim that a shootout between security forces in Monywa, Sagaing Region, led to the deaths of six people, including two children, on 24 August. These reports falsely attribute the fatalities to a shootout between security personnel.
In reality, the incident occurred on 18 August when six innocent civilians were murdered by PDF terrorists, who accused them of being informers. On 24 August, there were no shootouts involving security forces. According to a security official, the troops did not engage in any shooting on that day and are continuing to identify terrorists responsible for the earlier murders.
The false narrative spread by this malicious media aims to mislead the public by covering up the actions of PDF terrorists and misrepresenting the role of security forces. Security officials are diligently working to maintain law and order and ensure proper investigation and legal action against the perpetrators. — MNA/KZL
