The fifth group of Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine (UEHRD) youth volunteers, who arrived in Sittway, was welcomed by officials yesterday morning.
“Our group included 47 youth volunteers and six staff from our department, who will supervise the youth volunteers. We will go to Buthidaung and Maungtaw tomorrow. I will lead a group to Maungtaw. Volunteers in this batch are from charitable organisations, social organisations and the Red Cross Society. We have already provided training to them. Our departmental staff will also supervise them on the ground. Youth volunteers across the nation are invited to join our volunteer programme,” said Ko Than Htun Aung from the Department of Disaster Management. “I am in the group representing Lu-Ye Chun group (outstanding student group). My purpose of participating in the group is to assess the real situation in Rakhine, because I feel our country is wrongly blamed by the world. After I see the real situation, I can reveal the truth,” said Ma Aung Thein Than Htay from Lu-Ye Chun group.
The fifth group of youth volunteers will leave for Buthidaung by an express vessel this morning and will conduct field assistance programmes in the villages of the region from 3 to 12 March.
