File opened against former chief minister of Mon State Dr Aye Zan under Anti-Corruption Law

The Anti-Corruption Commission formed an investigation team according to the complaint to take action against the former chief minister of Mon State, Dr Aye Zan, under the law for his acts of taking monetary from businesspersons based on his post of chief minister and authority.
Based on inspection findings conducted by the investigation team, former chief minister of Mon State, Dr Aye Zan, accepted more than K569,809,000 from businesspersons who extracted sand from Thanlwin River as of 2018 while serving as chief minister of Mon State.
He allowed those businesspersons to pay a lesser amount of mineral tax to the State fund. As such, the State fund lost more than K132,357,000 in the 2019-2020 financial year.
He issued K20 million from the Covid-19 fund to another person, but he did not pay back the money. Dr Aye Zan then gave K65 million to the other two persons who did not pay back the money.
As such, the investigation showed financial loss of the State.
The Anti-Corruption Commission stated that a file of the lawsuit against Dr Aye Zan to be taken action under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law was opened at Mawlamyine Myoma police station in Mon State. — MNA
