Filmmakers to face copyright requirements for theme songs

According to the Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization (MMPO), it is now necessary to provide proof of copyright ownership or licensing for any theme songs used in their movies or TV series.
It is implementing a new copyright law for theme music in films and TV series. That means filmmakers must now obtain copyright permissions before using any theme songs in their productions.
“We are applying a new copyright system for theme music on 15 August. That means any serials, movies, commercials, or music videos submitted for censorship after that date must have obtained the necessary copyright permissions for their theme songs beforehand,” MMPO Vice-Chair U Aye Kyu Lay said.
Therefore, producers are required to contact the Myanmar Music Association (Central) to secure the rights for theme songs that will be used in their series or films. — ASH/TRKM
