Floating Thingyan Festival to be held at Inle Lake

The first-ever Inle Floating Thingyan festival will kick off on 13 April at the Inle Cultural Heritage Trust Complex in Nan Pan Village, Nyaungshwe Township, to preserve the Inthar traditional culture and boost tourism in Inle.
The festival will open on the first day of the Thingyan Eve Day at 3 pm. An Inthar traditional performance and entertainment programs by well-known singers are planned for the four days of Thingyan. A Mr and Miss Inle 2019 contest will be held on the last day of Thingyan.
Offerings will be given to 1,000 monks, and will also be made to 28 Buddha statues, and New Year Dhamma teachings will be given on the first day of the Myanmar New Year, said Ko Myint Thein from the Miss Inle Organization.
The festival will have 21 floating venues for food donations. The Inle Floating Thingyan Festival is aimed at drawing international tourists and boosting tourism.
The festival will be held for five days from 13 to 17 April. About 200,000 tourists and 500,000 locals from southern Shan State are expected to take part in the festival.—Nay Myo Thurein
