The longstanding, friendly ties between Sri Lanka and Myanmar firmly bound by Theravada Buddhism and cultural affinities span for many centuries. This centuries-old deep-rooted friendship between Sri Lanka and Myanmar has evolved to a greater height in the recent years. The establishment of the Amarapura and Ramanna Nikaya in Sri Lanka in 1803 and 1865 respectively are the testimonies to the culmination points of bilateral relations between the two countries.
