A fire broke out in a forest in Hpa-an Township, Kayin State, on Saturday afternoon, destroying poultry farms worth more than Ks6 million, the police reported.
The forest fire occurred at some 2.30 pm on 17 February in the forest, close to Tawonta Village in Kawhtamalein Village-tract. The blaze engulfed nearby poultry farms owned by three villagers— Daw Win Thu, U Win Naing Tun and U Mya Aye.
Some 31 pigs, including 24 piglets, were killed in the fire. However, no persons were reportedly injured. The total loss due to the fire is estimated at Ks6.75 million, including pigs worth some Ks4.5 million.
With the assistance of residents, firefighters controlled the blaze by 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. —Min Thu (Hpa-an)
