The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department of Debayin Township, Shwebo District, Sagaing region, is conducting a drive to vaccinate cattle against foot-and-mouth disease with the help of Community Health Assistant Workers, said Dr. Ohnmar Aye, Township Officer, Debayin LBVD. The vaccines are being provided free of cost.
“The department is providing free vaccination for cattle in the villages, which mostly have farming businesses involving cattle. Some businesses are concerned with breeding cattle. Our department is providing free vaccination to prevent cattle from getting infected with the foot-and-mouth disease. The free vaccination program is being implemented with the support of New Zealand,” he said.
The department has vaccinated 1,954 animals in Thayet Kaung, Shwedarkan, Chonywa, Shantaw, Min Swe Hnit, Tanaegyigone, Einyar, Wapar, and Kyat Khat villages, as of 9 June. The free vaccination program is being implemented in 26 villages from 8 to 12 June.—Win Oo (Zeyartine)
