French Architect Dr Pierre Pichard passes away in France

French Architect Dr Pierre Pichard, who played a significant role in the preservation and research of the Bagan World Heritage Site, passed away on 22 August in France at the age of 88.
Dr Pichard was renowned for his extensive work in Bagan, where he authored and published eight volumes of the Inventory of Monuments at Bagan, a comprehensive catalogue of the site’s historical monuments. His contributions included detailed documentation of over 2,000 religious structures in Bagan, covering their architectural types, dimensions, construction materials, year of establishment, and remaining artistic features like mural paintings.
Additionally, Dr Pichard was actively involved in the conservation and restoration efforts of Bagan’s ancient structures and played a pivotal role in the site’s successful inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. — ASH/KZL
