Myanmar Thanakha Planters, Producers and Exporters Association will designate the Fullmoon of Tabodwe (19 February, 2019) as the Myanmar Thanakha Day and will promote the traditional cosmetic paste made from Thanaka trees.
“On the Fullmoon of Tabodwe, we will conduct talks on Thanakha at Myaing, Yesagyo, Ayadaw and Shwebo townships where Thanakha is mainly produced” said U Win Maung, Secretary of MTPPEA.
The reason why the Fullmoon of Tabodwe is designated as the Myanmar Thanakha Day is the sales of Thanakha is high in this month as there are many traditional festivals in this month, he added.
The association was formed on 11 November in 2017 with 150 members.
The association is producing Thanakha based value added products to find foreign market.
The traditional cosmetic trees are mainly grown in central Myanmar and there are about 300,000 acres of Thanakha trees in the whole country.
