Futsal Cup 2019: Myanmar secures place in semi-final by beating Cambodia 9-3

MYANMAR’S MIU F.C. (Myanmar Imperial University Futsal Club) prevailed over Cambodia’s Down Town Sport (DTS) by 6 goals in the second Group B match of Futsal Cup 2019, held on Thursday in Khorat, Thailand, to secure a place in the semi-finals.
MIU dominated the match with concerted play, while debutants Down Town F.C. made an all-out effort against the strong Myanmar futsal team.
Myanmar futsal star Pyae Phyo Maung netted the first goal for MIU at two minutes.
Six minutes later, Myanmar’s Kyaw Kyaw Tun scored the second goal, raising the team’s confidence. Pyae Phyo Maung landed two more goals at the 8th (second penalty) and 20th minute, while Kyaw Tun added another goal to MIU’s kitty, also at 20 minutes.
Down Town F.C. made two consecutive goals at 17 minutes. They were both scored by Owolabi
Fisayo Blessing. After the first half, the score stood at 5-2 in favour of MIU, assisted by Pyae Phyo Maung’s hat-trick and goals by Kyaw Tun.
While MIU kept up the pressure, Down Town’s Tong Chanmony landed the third goal for his team at 21 minutes, taking advantage of a breach in MIU’s defense in the second half.
However, MIU proved to be unstoppable, with Khin Zaw Linn scoring at 26 and 35 minutes, Phyo Maung at 37 minutes, and Aung Thu at 39 minutes, taking the goal tally to 9.
With the 9-3 win over Down Town, MIU has advanced to the semi-final stage of the tourney. It has placed first in Group B, while Down Town has finished second, and Melaka United of Malaysia third. In the semi-final, MIU will take on Group A runners up Sanvines Sanatech Khanh Hoa F.C. of Viet Nam on 22 June. —Lynn Thit (Tgi)
