Gold leaf worth over K2 billion will be offered to cover the entire SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda, according to the Sagaing Region government.
To support this offering, Dr Ashin Nyanissara (Sitagu Sayadaw) donated K100 million, while the Sagaing Region government contributed K50 million.
The Buddha Pujaniya Festival at the historic SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda takes place annually on the full moon day of Waso (Dhammacakka Day). During the festival, 700 invited Sayadaws are presented with alms and Waso robes, and religious organizations make a grand offering of alms to members of the Sangha at the pagoda. — TWA/MKKS
