Government needs to control systematically the import of motor vehicles either individually or through showrooms and sale centers, said Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Than Myint, chairman of Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicle Importing under the Ministry of Commerce on Friday at the Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicle Importing (1/2017) meeting.
“Our committee needs to control the vehicle import. We need to take account of the repressions upon issue of model year restriction rule. Whatever we do, we should be proactive in our draining of plans,” he added.
The inspection teams were formed in February 2016 to conduct field inspection tours of the car showrooms and sale centers to ensure that the car importing companies comply with the rules and regulations.
The government has already granted import of 350,852 vehicles as of 30 December, 2016.
