Government of the People’s Republic of China donates USD300,000 to Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine received Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai to Myanmar at the Ministry’s meeting hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
During the meeting, the Union minister said that relief funds and disaster awareness centres are being set up in five townships in Shan State with the support of the Mekong-Lancang Programme.
The ministry is working on social protection measures to develop the people freely and securely and to build resilient communities, the Union Minister added.
She said that further steps include repatriation of displaced persons and social harmony activities are essential and the establishment of the University of Social Sciences in Nay Pyi Taw and Centre for Social Protection Resources will be implemented.
Next, the Chinese ambassador said that US$300,000 was donated to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on behalf of the Chinese government.
He said that it was part of an annual US$1 million donation to the peace process in Myanmar, and this was the sixth time. Afterwards, the Union Minister received US$300,000 donated by the Chinese ambassador on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and returned the Certificate of Honour. —MNA
