H1N1 drives duck egg demand

DEMAND for duck eggs has increased significantly since reports emerged of five deaths due to the H1N1 virus as Myanmar residents choose them over chicken eggs.
Duck eggs are primarily produced in Pyapon, Ayeywady Region, which ships more than 100,000 duck eggs to Yangon market, daily, according to local merchants. Most of the eggs come by boat along the Ayeyawady River – the remainder are transported by truck.
Pyapon duck egg seller U Myo Myint said that duck eggs are selling for an average of Ks110 each in Pyapon and Ks120 in Yangon.—Aung Win (Pyapon)
