Health & Sports Minister discusses regional cooperation in 72nd WHO SEA Session

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe attended the 72nd Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia from 2 to 4 September in New Delhi.
The Union Minister attended the Health Sector Preparedness and Emergency Response Ministerial Meeting on 3 September. The meeting exchanged emergency response experiences in times of natural disasters, organizing for regional countries to provide practical support to each other, amending guidelines and regulations to changing situations and having WHO distribute them to all affiliated countries simultaneously.
Next, the Union Minister signed and adopted the Delhi Declaration on Emergency Preparedness with the WHO Director-General, Southeast Asian Region Director, and health ministers from regional countries.
The Southeast Asian Regional Committee Meeting then commenced with Southeast Asian Director Dr Poonam Singh explaining the implementation of countries operating with WHO funds for 2018-2019, as well as the accomplishments and challenges faced by WHO.
Dr Myint Htwe discussed that regional healthcare issues are constantly changing and Myanmar is applying innovative approaches, firm technology and technical skills to address
Afterwards, the Union Minister met privately with Professor Dr Balram Bhargava, Director-General at the Indian Council of Medical Research and Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health Research. They discussed swiftly signing an MoU of cooperation between the medical research councils of both countries on communicable and noncommunicable diseases, and organizing for high-level research professionals from India’s council to come cooperate in Myanmar.
Following this, the Union Minister met with Southeast Asian Director Dr Poonam Singh and discussed cooperation with WHO on professional and research oriented matters.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
